NEOM - The Spine & Connector Rail Infrastructure• Project Management Consultancy for the construction of the rail transportation systems for The Line, the centerpiece of KSA’s Vision 2030 and NEOM development.• Based in the Marina section of the project, I am responsible for the dewatering and excavation contractors, managing their interfaces, implementation of their contract requirements, overall performance (safety, schedule & budget) and review design and work methods.

Seconded from the central Methods Team to support the Regional Buildings function.• Responsible for the delivery of several interlinked works packages (ground investigation, instrumentation & monitoring, ground stabilisation and excavation). Managed the scheduling, operations, design coordination and client interfaces to develop new and innovative construction solutions required by the complex site constraints. • In the absence of the usual site manager, I was frequently required to take control of the site management during the works for long periods. In these periods he was accountable for the safety of >15 operatives. Typical duties included: morning briefings and works planning sessions, inducting site visitors, managing welfare arrangements and safety tours with Client and Design teams.

Live project support for Balfour Beatty's Major Projects.• Using the principles of method-led construction, Alastair tailored and optimised construction solutions to provide improvements, efficiencies and savings based on the specific requirements of projects, as well as ensuring clarity and justification on decision making. • As well as providing technical expertise, Alastair also to led and facilitated collaboration between project teams and external subject matter experts to solve unique and complex issues.

Hinkley Point C - Marine & Tunnelling Works (Phase 2 - offshore)• Led the materials approvals and logistics packages for complex, high risk offshore nuclear works to complete the tunnel-to-shaft connections at Hinkley Point C New Nuclear Power Station (dredging, gravel infill & backfill, armour-stone and structural concrete). • Additional key responsibilities included design management, chairing risk reduction meetings, reviewing subcontractor documents (risk assessments and method statements), raising and reviewing EWs, RFIs, NCRs and FCRs, and providing regular progress reports to the project client.

Hinkley Point C - Marine & Tunnelling Works (Phase 1 - onshore)• Responsible for the trials, testing and reporting to gain approval for nuclear grade high-performance concrete mixes for TBM tunnel lining segments and intake / outfall head units.• Became proficient in; managing a UKAS accredited testing laboratory, high performance concrete mix design (including SCC & low-heat), batching plant set up and maintenance, precast tunnel segment factory set up and operation.

Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR)• Sampling, testing and reporting the properties of construction materials such as soils, aggregates and concrete to assess their suitability for use in the construction of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, which at the time was the UK’s largest new road project.
