¡Hola! I am pursuing an MSc in Biological Oceanography at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. My research focuses on monitoring water quality trends in Puerto Rico in support of coral reef restoration.As a NOAA Cooperative Science Center in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology Fellow, I had the opportunity to participate in the Experiential Research and Training Opportunity at NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science where I evaluated the applicability of NOAA Kd490 product by doing field trips to estimate in situ Kd490. My interest in the application of Unoccupied Aerial Systems (drone) technology to oceanography led me to be the recipient of three executive education courses offered by the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University sponsored by NOAA Southeast and Caribbean Regional Team, U.S Integrated Ocean Observing System, and the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA). The courses were Intro to UAS in Biology, Ecology, and Conservation, UAS Operations for Environmental Scientists, and Quantitative Analysis of UAS Data. I aim to use drones to derive water quality parameters in coastal regions where high resolution is needed. I also have teaching and leadership experience, as I have given general biology laboratory classes and was the President of Asociación de Estudiantes de Ciencias Marinas (AECiMa), the student organization of marine sciences students at UPRM. AECiMa's mission is to promote marine sciences education and conservation in Puerto Rico. For this purpose, we organized the Marine Sciences Symposium to spread research findings in the marine sciences field and promote networking between students and career scientists, among other activities throughout the year.In my spare time, I make stained glass, fly drones, and enjoy snorkeling.
