The Making Lab is a science Technology Platforms Francis Crick Institute.We aim at fostering innovation with an interdisciplinary and collaborative mannerto develop innovative, bespoke experimental systems by combining approaches from engineering, design and biology. Our team of engineers, designers and biologists develops innovative, high-impact systems to help answer complex biomedical research questions by focusing on two main areas of expertise: Microfluidic and Biomaterial focusing on the study of micro-scale in vitro technologies, including but not limited to organ-on-chip technologies to better understand fundamental biological dynamics.System engineering, electronics & programming, to develop bespoke fully integrated automated devices such and neuroscience behavioural systems, bespoke optics tools etc.Each project is unique so we work closely with scientists to design, build, test and implement new methods, hardware and software. We have collaborated on the publication of new developments in the fields of microfluidics, cell biology, development and stem cells, cancer biology, neuroscience, infection and immunology, and bioengineering.We also train researchers to carry out their own experiments in a DIY and Open Access approach, through one-to-one training, courses and workshops.
