His industry experience extends from large multinationals & mid-sized seed companies, such as the Pfizer/DeKalb collaboration that created the first transgenic maize, to small & mid-sized Ag-Biotech companies that invented & patented novel solutions to some of the most challenging technological problems in the field. Dr. Kausch has an extensive background in commercial research program design, management of large commercial laboratory facilities & leadership of significant research teams. His scientific research & leadership include contributions toward commercial events generated through genetic modification, traditional breeding, genomics & gene editing of various crop plants now grown commercially worldwide. Dr. Kausch's expertise with the commercialization process extends from concept to laboratory & field testing, product development, and on to market. He is fluent with the network of IP rights & patent literature, licensing, regulatory affairs, marketing, & public perception of biotechnology. With this experience he serves as a consultant and intellectual property rights expert witness. His has served as Founder, Co-founder or SAB member for several Ag-Biotech startups. This history & experience afford Dr. Kausch an expansive view of world agriculture & global food security.His academic experience spans his entire career with several concurrent appointments overlapping his industry experience. The Kausch Laboratory has transformed over 28 plant species and worked with dozens of collaborators worldwide generating a significant research publication & patent history.Prof. Kausch has taught a large general education course, Issues in Biotechnology, enrolling more than 10,000 students over 20 years. Recently, he developed this as a state-of-the-art courseware resource for distribution as a large enrollment asynchronous Online General Education Course for International release. In 2004 Dr. Kausch founded the 501c3 nonprofit organization lifeedu.org, with Pfizer, Inc as the Charter Sponsor, for the development and distribution of educational materials on biotechnology.
