The 6 foundation directors all came from Hartley Computer Pty Ltd where they had worked in a variety of positions. Solution 6 was established to compete with Hartley Computer in the area of providing computer solutions to professional accounting firms. After initial financial difficulties, Solution 6 some years later became a public company and was listed on the Australian stock exchange.

I joined PA as a graduate consultant in the Systems Division, working under supervision in a variety of small and large organsitions both public, private and government. After intensive training in a number of management disciplines I became a senior consultant, in charge of assignments, both in Victoria as well as in other states in Australia. One significant assigment was in Bandung, Indonesia, where for two years I was member of a team working on behalf of the World Bank for the Indonesian telecommunications authority, "Perusahaan Umum Telekomunikasi". This involved a great deal of travel and the need to learn the language, Bahasa Indonesia. Here I was responsible for replacing the cash-based government accounting system with a commercial accounting system, with accruals, provisions, reserves and all the other aspects of a commercial system, including the establishment of a Fixed Asset Ledger, comprising assets held at some 800 different sites in the archipelago. During my second year on the team I established a commercial tariff system, aimed at full recovery of all costs, allowing the Corporation to build sufficient reserves to enable it to renew obsolete plant as it became necessary without the need for Central Government continuing to financially support the Corporation.

Having qualified as an accountant, I was employed as the accountant, later Financial Controller and later again Director of Finance to this Australian subsidiary of the English Company Fielden Electronics Ltd. We manafactured and distributed industrial process control equipment throughout Australia.

Having just arrived in Australia from The Netherlands, I found a job at ICIANZ where I worked in a variety of departments, both in Head Office in Melbourne as well as the Central Research Laboratories in Ascot Vale. Here I was able to study at night, eventually qualifying as an accountant. .
