In this role I have expanded upon my surgical experience and I have learned several new skills. This office has 6 providers, and covers all types of dental procedures. I joined to assist the oral surgery operations of the day, but have since learned to assist general dentistry procedures as well. Now, along with my knowledge of assisting oral surgery (wisdom teeth removal, implant placement, sinus lifts, removal of odontomas, tooth extractions, biopsies, ect.) I have also developed the skills to assist procedures like root canals, crown lengthening, crown and bridge preps, fillings, denture adjustments, ect. I can offer any type of assistance needed at a dental or oral surgery office and have the skills to back up my knowledge.

In this role, working on behalf of the PADOH, I worked to reach out to contacts of persons ill with Covid-19 to warn them that they have been exposed to the virus. In this conversation with a contact I would check to see if the contact is currently symptomatic as well as provide information on testing, quarantine/isolation instructions and sign them up to a confidential system to monitor their symptoms moving forward. I would also be available to connect contacts with resources if necessary, such as emergency food, social services and other needs. In this role I developed specific skills like using an online database effectively, developing rapport on calls, and effectively translating information over the phone.

In this position I covered both security and surveillance details. Surveillance can be on subjects dealing with child custody cases, have active criminal defense cases, ect. This position came with intense attention to detail and knowledge of proper safety precautions. I chose to move on from this position after being offered the role of contact tracer by Insight Global as I wanted to make an impact on the pandemic affecting our country.

This role demanded precision and extreme attention to detail. My day would start by setting up surgical trays, specific to the Surgeon (there are four oral Surgeons at OMS) and the patient (This included preparing specific patient medications and monitors/medical devices). Then, we would prepare for our day by discussing the day's surgery schedule and mentally walk through our goals for each of the surgeries that day. My role through the surgeries was majority as a First Assistant or Anesthesia Assistant. The role of the First Assistant is to cut sutures, suction around surgical area, hold retractors, keep steady light on the area of surgery and to directly assist the Surgeon with the finesse and prompt movements necessary to achieve a successful surgery. The role of the Anesthesia Assistant is to monitor the patient's vitals and track them throughout the surgical procedure. One ear would be listening to the patient's breathing through a stethoscope, while the other would listen for movement cues from the Surgeon or First Assistant. The vital signs monitored in this position were the patient's pulse, EKG rhythms, CO2 output, pulse-ox percentage and overall influence from anesthesia.

While my responsibilities were largely the same as my previous Clinical Assistant position, I adopted a few more at Malvern. I would run small group sessions from Tuesday-Friday once a month. Along with this I was also in the transportation department which involved safely transporting patients to doctors appointments, recovery houses' and many other destinations.

As a clinical assistant my duties were far and wide. My main responsibilities were running psychoanalytic lectures as well as de-escalating patients. Day to day responsibilities included searching patients and their belongings when they entered treatment, helping patients feel comfortable in treatment and monitoring the community for signs of unhealthy or destructive behaviors that would inhibit their recovery. In this position, I worked hand in hand with the clinical staff and was in consistent communication with each patient's direct counselor. While working second shift I was also largely responsible for one on one sessions with struggling clients. The responsibilities of this position were far and wide. Basically, if any department needed help (counseling, nursing, admissions, management, etc.) I was always ready to offer a helping hand.
