Serving as the statewide public health consultant responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Department’s Infant Mortality Prevention strategic plan and project, drafting and monitoring the project budget and contractual arrangements, and providing project support to the Infant Mortality Steering Committee that sets the direction the department via the strategic plan development. Using strong public health science, practice and knowledge; and strong collaboration and group/community organization abilities this consultant will provide oversight, guide, monitor, andevaluate the strategic plan and objectives. This consultant must keep the division management and department administration informed of status and issues. Effectively communicate with the various staff across units, divisions and administrations within the department, and with external experts and contributors keeping them informed of progress and assure their input into the effort. The Infant Mortality Prevention Consultant provides leadership in designing and identifyinginterventions; prepares and reviews grant applications to fund strategic plan activities; participates and consults in research, surveillance, evaluation, data analysis in collaboration with the division, MCH Epidemiology at MDCH and university researchers. My primary responsibilities in the Center for Health, Data, Research and Mapping (HDReAM) including serving as the public health coordinator for Calhoun County, advisory board organizer, community connections facilitator, primary HSIRB author and data analysis.

As the epidemiologist for Calhoun County Public Health Department I am responsible for public health surveillance on the local level which includes analysis and evaluation of various programs within the health department as well as in the public sector. As the Director of Food and Nutritional Services, my primary responsibility was to run the daily operations of the FNS division which included Meals on Wheels, MIC (Mothers, Infants and Children), CSFP (commodities supplemental food program), and TEFAP (temporary emergency food assistance program). I strived to educate the local community on food insecurity and programs available through Community Action and searched for funding sources to increase the revenue of the department.

Head Start Nutritionist, Kalamazoo County Head Start My responsibilities included reviewing nutrition assessment forms for all children in the Head Start Program. I created individualized nutrition care plans for any child with a food allergy and oversaw the implementation of the plan in the classroom. Continually, I monitored 11 sites to ensure they were current with CACFP and Head Start performance standards by conducting 2 food safety audits per classroom a year. Audits include checking food handling practices, adherence to licensing requirements and maintaining equipment inventory for 21 classrooms. Lastly, I managed the monthly food budget for the Head Start Program. WIC Program Coordinator, Kalamazoo County WIC Program I managed the day to day operations for the program as well as assisted with the in service training of staff. I completed performance appraisals and regularly met with the HCS Director to report on program functions. I provided nutrition consultations to clients and prepared meal coupons for families. I worked to developed new ways to reach and educate pregnant women and children under the age of 5 and prepared the program for HIPAA compliance by the end of 2003. Overall I managed a staff of 10 and was responsible for over 1,200 clients and their children receiving WIC services.
