Data Scientist

Alpiq Energia Italia is an energy company active in energy trading (gas and electricity) and power production. It is a technical and digital service provider with branches dedicated to energy efficiency, energy/assets management and energy sales/origination.Italian assets are thermal plants, wind farms, photovoltaic power stations and mini-hydro power plants.PERFORMANCE ANALYSISMy main activity is focused on thermal plants performance analysis for Italian assets: I am contributing to developing analytics for performance predictions and benchmarking.I support tollers in evaluating dispatching algorithms: this activity resulted in a revision of some forecasting models affected by plants revamping and modifications.I prepare monthly reports for all Italian thermal plants and I recently developed some analytics for KPI evaluation of renewable energy power plants.PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCEI followed directly the adoption of a new tool for predictive maintenance on one of Alpiq's thermal plants. I supported the supplier during the configuration process and now I have the role of key user for the monitoring phase.I am increasing my experience with the Predix platform and with the constant monitoring process required for a predictive maintenance approach.SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENTI am using Matlab on a regular basis and I am deepening my knowledge of other languages (in addition to the ones I already used during my career). The great amount of data collected on power plants typically requires dedicated programs/scripts for optimizing analysis and reducing time to results.I am improving my Python skills and I am introducing machine learning algorithms in existing analytics.ENERGY EFFICIENCYI supported the energy efficiency division in preliminary evaluation of energy demand profile for some industrial plants. This activity is a technical support to bids.

MACCHI is an industrial boiler manufacturer with a long lasting experience in "oil & gas" and petrochemical markets.ENGINEERING ACTIVITIESDuring the engineering phase I have been tasked with the following activities:- Sizing of heat exchange surfaces- Expected performance calculation- Preparation of basic engineering documentation (for both internal and external use)- Efficiency calculation, heat and mass balance evaluationMeeting deadlines when working on order-related tasks was a critical aspect.I supported the project engineer in selecting some fundamental equipment (fans, pumps, dampers and valves). I followed up suppliers offers with sizings and process data evaluation.PERFORMANCE TESTS AND FIELD DATA ANALYSISI participated to equipment tests at suppliers premises and to boiler final performance tests at clients' plants (China, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia).During service/commissioning activities I evaluated data from field sensors, taking the role of data analyst.SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT (R&D)I was the main developer for the internal thermodynamical calculation software (based on C and VBA): this was a parallel and uninterrupted activity I carried out autonomously.I handled development, debugging and validation phases. In addition to the analytic model, I developed also the user interface: I have delved into C and VBA developing languages, and I learnt how to set up and maintain a git repository.
