POLICY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT. Supports the Joint Staff J-5 by serving as a senior strategic analyst, applying systematic analysis methods to assess the Joint Strategic Planning System (JSPS), the National Military Strategy (NMS), Unified Command Plan (UCP), the Joint Strategic Capabilities Plan (JSCP), and coordination of the Global Defense Posture (GDP).STRATEGIC WRITING. Supports the Joint Staff J-5 by formulating recommendations for the methodology used by the Joint Staff, Services, and combatant commands to develop the CJCS's annual assessment of the Armed Forces' ability to execute the NMS and assess associated strategic and military risks, including supporting the Annual Joint Assessment process. Recommends issues for CJCS, VCJCS, DJ5, or DD-JSP consideration that form the basis of the Chairman's statutory reports to the Secretary of Defense and Congress on his annual risk assessment and yearly review of the National Defense Strategy (NDS).OPERATIONS SUPPORT. Supports the Joint Staff J-5 by providing Joint Staff expertise and a strategic perspective to the Office of the Secretary of Defense's (OSD) Support for Strategic Analysis (SSA) actions, activities, and planning; maintains knowledge of all ongoing SSA actions. Assists in managing the Enterprise Task Management Solution System (ETMS2) for DDJSP-led projects and studies of complex national security, defense policy, and military strategy issues across the Department and within the OSD.POLICY DEVELOPMENT. Supports the Joint Staff J-5 by developing strategy- and risk-related assessment recommendations for CJCS, VCJCS, DJ-5, or DD-JSP consideration. Supports the J5 by providing policy advice and independently drafting recommendations to the development of Military Advice on all matters pertaining to National Strategic documents, contingency and campaign plan development, plan review and assessment, interagency coordination and collaboration, Joint Force risk assessment, and global defense posture.
