The Rensselaer IDEA enables research to access such technologies via the development of critical computational methodologies including data-intensive supercomputing, large-scale agent-based simulation, and cognitive computing technologies.I researched under Tom Morgan who headed the sports analytics project called RPI Hockey Motion Capture. This project was directed at tracking the on-ice motion of hockey players combined with analytics to aid coaching and player development. My role was to research the application and feasibility of various Computer Vision techniques for tracking fast-moving objects. I applied techniques such as color masking and contour detection to track hockey pucks in a video stream.

    MY ROLE:Worked under IBM’s Power Systems Performance group, specifically in Chip Performance and Benchmarking, to assist in upbringing the IBM POWER9’ and POWER10 chips. I provided development support and created automated scripts to assist our CPU HW power/performance validation engineers with streamlining work efforts of repeatable but tedious tasks. My team was driving pre-silicon to post-silicon Power/Performance validation, optimization, and tuning of the POWER microprocessors for next-generation IBM Cognitive Servers.Other tasks included:• Focused on developing and maintaining automated regression test scenarios for validating post-Silicon.• Enabled IBM Power Systems Performance Bring up team to further automate the existing suite of benchmarks.• Incorporated IBM’s Design Thinking to create scripts resulting in great user experience that contributes towards efficiency, quality, and stability.• Enabled continuous deployment by developing and creating automated processes of which were documented in weekly reports via GitHub.• Debugged test environments and assist in solving scripting language package dependencies prior to deployment in ATE.PROJECT IMPACT:My work at IBM has already saved 100+ hours of manual work. I was brought in as an intern to automate most of the testing being done for the POWER series chips.In addition to this, the incorporation of IBM’s Design Thinking methodology improved the user experience of our engineers with regards to our test data. This is done by post-processing the data to return meaningful results, spreadsheet creating/population, and data simplification in the form of live graphs.     The Cognitive and Immersive Systems Lab (CISL) is a collaboration between Rensselaer and IBM Research to lead the frontier of research and development of immersive cognitive systems. I was part of the Multimodal Dialogue and Machine Teaching project as an Undergraduate Researcher under the Dialogue Engine Team. This research project focuses on teaching an instructable agent through natural language and dialogue. I researched Natural Language Generation and implemented agent dialogue to match the complexity of the user by computing the difficulty of their spoken sentences.This research project is part of The Mandarin Project, a forefront of advanced research in Cognitive and Immersive Classrooms for Cyber-Enabled Language Learning. It leverages speech-based dialogue for communication and information exchange in Mandarin between students and agents in an immersive environment, where students are engaged in task-oriented group activities with communications and other social practices.
