Al D’Andrea is a stage director, actor, writer and teacher. He has directed numerous workshops, readings and productions of original and classic theatre works in Los Angeles, New York and regionally. He is the former Artistic Director of the Third Step Theatre Company, a collective of New York theatre artists devoted to new play development and production during the 1980’s and 1990’s. After 15 years in New York, Al spent 16 years in Los Angeles acting in film, television and theatre and directing for the theatre. Al has written the book to and directed a workshop production of the new musical Mesmerized, the story of Anton Mesmer and his cure of the blind prodigy pianist Maria Theresa Paradies in 1777 Vienna. Al now lives in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where he and his wife, the playwright Margit Ahlin, continue their work writing, developing new plays, directing and teaching for the theatre.Specialties: Developing and directing new musicals and plays; Developing and directing new theatre pieces collaboratively with an acting ensemble and design team using structured improvisation; Directing large cast shows; Teaching acting, directing, script interpretation and theater improv.
