I spent a year working for Geomarine before starting university, and returned to work over the summer alongside my studies. As a general operative, I gained practical onsite experience for a range of large and smaller scale civil engineering projects, which provided valuable context to my academic knowledge. In addition to the practical skills I learned, I received a valuable insight into the day-to-day runnings of a Civil Engineering Contractor. My responsibilities included traffic management, plant and vehicle operation, skilled and unskilled labour, and assisting with general site management. Some of the projects I was involved with were the updated Bellozane sewage treatment works, the new La Collette metal recycling plant, and the electrical services network development.
