I'm currently analyzing and reporting on client health and operational data for a subrogation firm based in La Grange, KY.In a previous life I was one of a handful of decision makers at an independently owned retail coffee chain. I managed green coffee purchasing and a production team for about 9 years, ensuring all 17 of our cafes were always stocked with fresh-roasted coffee. For seven years I had a seat on the Leadership Team where members from Operations, Finance, Marketing and Executive Leadership made decisions that grew the company 45% since 2012. It was fun and challenging to solve problems, and seize opportunities to improve efficiency and increase profitability.Attacking a problem with data is my favorite tactic. Solid analysis of good data can make difficult decisions much easier, but I'm constantly reminding myself that every business decision impacts real people. That's why I'm mindful of how decisions made by leadership affect the customer or client experience. For example, a spreadsheet can tell me that we'll save thousands of dollars annually by sourcing a new beverage ingredient. But, if that change disrupts workflow in the cafe, or produces an inferior product, what should have been a positive impact on the bottom quickly turn negative. Good numbers won't lie, but it takes a great analyst to know if the story they tell has the happy ending for the company that you hope it does.
