I like music and am a strong writer and thinker with good taste. (I am also a bit more low-key than that sentence might indicate.) In terms of career, I've found a space discovering, producing and promoting emerging creative talent, helping established artists reformulate their careers, and curating. Though I have focused on music, I am also attuned to technology, design, and "art" (whatever that means) — and actually began my career as a writer & journalist. In 2001, alongside members of The National Aaron & Bryce Dessner, I co-founded Brassland, a record label documenting a community of world-class musicians. In a 2011 profile, The Guardian newspaper in London said it was "at the centre of New York's other music scene," calling it "a focus for some of the city's most intriguing and creative musicians." Pitchfork has referred to us as "venerable artpop boutique label." Aside from the label, I work as an independent manager & creative producer. Clients have included artists and entities such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation's Summer Nostos Festival, Dirty Projectors, record producer Rusty Santos, the sui generis Buke and Gase and songwriter Alexi Murdoch. I also administer a small music publishing catalog.In a previous career I wrote & published frequently, contributing articles to LA Weekly, New York Times, The New Yorker, Los Angeles Times and other publications. Prior to that, I taught at New York University's graduate journalism program; produced projects for new media design firm Funny Garbage; and wrote for Faith Popcorn's BrainReserve.I have spoken at the Rhode Island School of Design, the School of Visual Arts, New York University and Parsons and been quoted or covered by media outlets including the Creative Independent, the Wall Street Journal, Pitchfork, The Creative Independent, PRINT, The Irish Times, The Guardian and Norway's (second) largest tabloid.
