Profile bio

About Alece Oxendine

For almost 15 years I have dedicated my career to guiding emerging filmmakers in the areas of festival strategy, distribution best practices, social media marketing, and so much more. I get to mentor hundreds of aspiring multi-hyphenate filmmakers. My first entry point in the film industry was a shorts jury member for the RiverRun Film Festival in 2008 and that altered my brain chemistry. Since then, I have served on juries at Bushwick Film Festival, IndieMemphis, Indie Street Film Festival, Lighthouse International Film Festival, Napa Valley Film Festival, and New Orleans Film Festival. I have had amazing opportunities to speak at length about distribution on panels at DOC NYC, Filmmaker Alliance, Film Fatales, The Gotham Film and Media Institute, NYWIFT, Reel Sisters, Tribeca Festival, and Women in Film. I am on a crusade to make sure filmmakers understand the process of distribution.I am dedicated to supporting Black and Indigenous filmmakers and stories. From being a Durham native, to having attended a HBCU, and served on the board of Black Film Space, I have a proven track record of supporting Black storytellers and films. Being a descendant of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and having written my graduate school thesis on early Indigenous cinema, I am drawn to championing stories from federally unrecognized tribes. Now I am focused on telling my own stories and currently transitioning to being an author and a screenwriter. This evolutionary time is exciting and I look forward to sharing more soon.
