Transportation Research - Developed novel systems using sensing, computing and control to solve complex transportation problems. Some examples include:• Managed engineering development of a smartphone –based Teen Driver Support System that warns the teen driver and parent of unsafe driving behavior. Technology genesis of new company (Drive Power LLC).• Managed engineering development of a NHTSA sponsored in-vehicle Safe Teen Car system that provides visual and auditory feedback to teen in order to improve driving safety • Led design and development of a roadside intersection collision avoidance system using radar, laser, visible and infrared cameras with image processing. Four intersections have been deployed and are currently providing gap safety information to the drivers at those intersections.• Designed and implemented gang plow assistive system in which trailing snowplow autonomously followed the lead plow using DGPS, wireless communication and actuators. • Implemented a longitudinal collision avoidance control algorithm aboard a Navistar tractor using radar and laser scanner, validated on highway • Designed and implemented novel range sensor filter using DGPS, radar and geospatial database to filter out false targets in real-time• Designed and performed experiment to measure the dynamic accuracy of DGPS sensors on a vehicle using camera and image processing techniques• Formulated methodology to dynamically assess accuracy of automotive range sensors using vehicle mounted DGPS and wireless networking
