CurrentBiomedical Engineering Research • Computational modelling of biological systems (e.g., respiratory and vascular). • Biomedical Engineering and Biodevices, e.g., design of cardiovascular stents and dry powder inhalers. • Environmental and worker exposure to inhaled nano- and micro- particles. • Integration of CFD, particle population and interaction dynamics. Particulate and Reaction Engineering Research: • Development and implementation of computational techniques for the solution of population balance equations (univariate and multivariate) describing particle size distributions and integration with other models (e.g., particle models, CFD, DEM). • Detailed dynamic modelling of emulsion, precipitation, and suspension polymerization reactors • End-use properties (rheology, morphology, stability)Selected Activities:• Prepared multi-party proposals for European projects and participated in European research programs in the areas of biomedical and particulate engineering. • Recently submitted research proposals include: scale-up of pharmaceutical process, worker exposure to nanoparticles, drug delivery of anti-angiogenesis carriers, new biomaterials for cardiovascular stents, modelling of nanotoxicology, modelling of rheumatoidal arthritis. • Collaborated with colleagues in the management and execution of research programs involving industrial partners. • Designed and coordinated experimental studies and prepared detailed reports and presentations for European and Industrial projects.
