I take on large, difficult questions that affect millions of households. What are the solutions to Canada's housing problems, how do we increase prosperity in Canada, and what should we do about climate change? These are some of the ‘wicked problems’ I’ve tackled in over 20 years in the federal government at the Department of Finance, Environment & Climate Change Canada, CMHC and others. To explore these questions, I’ve guided multiple large teams simultaneously, and worked with a range of experts across Canada. I come to understand the challenges and opportunities in addressing these questions using rigorous analysis to drive changes in strategy and policy. I am a spokesperson for the organization.Over recent years, the work I’ve led has changed the policy debate for housing in Canada towards the importance of more housing supply in tackling affordability. I led a major effort that culminated in a significant report in 2018 on reasons behind escalating house prices, and analysis in 2022 that quantified the shortage in housing supply in Canada. Now, I spend much of my time encouraging appropriate action to improve affordability and prosperity for everyone in Canada.
