A highly experienced, accomplished UEFA A Licensed (outfield and goalkeeping) Goalkeeper coach and a talented goalkeeper in his playing days, Aled Williams began coaching in the youth set up at his boyhood club Cardiff City FC.In 2009 Aled departed for the MLS in America with the New York Red Bulls as Head of Goalkeeping for the Youth department and U23 team. Aled then made a decision to return to his hometown club Cardiff City FC coaching the Goalkeepers in their category 2 Academy in 2013, in his pursuit to coach at the highest levels in the UK.In July 2015, Aled was appointed as U23 and Lead Academy Goalkeeper Coach for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in their Category One Academy. Alongside his role at Wolves, Aled was also the goalkeeper coach for his native country Wales for the U17 squad.Williams was also part of the coaching staff of the Wolves under-23 side which was crowned Premier League 2 champions in the 2018/19 season.Other successes while at Wolves included designing and implementing Wolves goalkeeping DNA, philosophy and methodology which successfully developed four goalkeepers during Williams tenure to go on and gain professional contracts with the Premier League side within his years of service to the club, with many also gaining scholarships shortly after he moved onto a new venture…In May 2019, Aled was ‘head hunted’ and appointed as Head of Goalkeeping for Coventry City Football Club.Aled’s first role at Coventry was to rebuild and restructure the goalkeeping department with Marko Marosi and Ben Wilson as his first recruiting task.Coventry City were crowned 2019/20 League One Champions in Aled’s first season at the club, while Coventry City goalkeeper Marko Marosi was also named in the EFL team of the season for League One. In the 2022/2023 season, Coventry City goalkeeper Ben Wilson would go on to break the long standing club record of clean sheets keeping an impressive number of 23 that season, winning the Golden Glove and also earning the accolade of being named in the EFL championship team of the season.Aled is a hardworking, innovative and elite developer of goalkeepers, with extensive experience in youth development and senior football to develop goalkeepers within the top tiers of football.
