Hi!I am Alyssa, a 22-year old Filipina, currently employed as a Neonatal ICU Nurse at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital (USTH). I graduated Cum Laude at the University of Santo Tomas last June 2022 and took the Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination come November the same year, and by God’s grace ranked at the 8th place. I chose pediatrics when I was asked by the Chief Nurse on what ward I want to be deployed to, as I was really fond of being around children and I have an enthusiastic curiosity on their growth as well as their development. I’m handling neonatal patients ranging from level 1 to level 4 acuity, provided routine newborn care such as taking vitals and anthropometric measurements, vaccinations, bathing, cord care, thermoregulation, time bound, and non-time bound procedures during the first minutes or hours of life. I also rendered critical care such as feeding through cup or orogastric tube, administering common medications like antibiotics and vitamins, suctioning, and nesting. I do not only give health teachings but I also ensure proper demonstration of basic newborn care especially to first time parents or caregivers to ensure continuity of care as my patients get discharged. I am also an effective communicator seen through proper documentation of care or treatment rendered, collaboration with my co-nurses through endorsement, and cooperation in formulating or revising care plans with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
