in-Training is the online newspaper for medical students that was founded in June 2012. in-Training is the agora of the medical student community, the intellectual center for news, commentary, and the free expression of the medical student voice. It is of medical students, for medical students, and by medical students.As founder, I develop and advance organizational culture and vision for the publication. I perform governance modeling, write and implement bylaws, ensure adherence to ethical guidelines and journalistic integrity, implement marketing and fund development strategies, and encourage leadership development among staff. As editor-in-chief, lead an editorial staff of over 40 medical students to peer-edit and publish submissions from medical students worldwide at www.in-training.org. To date, have published more than 700 articles from over 250 medical student writers. Review manuscripts submitted to the Bellevue Literary Review, a literary journal exploring the intersection of medicine and the humanities.

Collate, edit and oversee publication of AMWA’s national weekly Newsflash newsletter and quarterly Connections magazine. Ensure timely communication on the latest news from AMWA and the realms of women’s health and women’s professional development. Served as Regional Director of NY and NY (2013-2014): Supervised the activities and concerns of AMWA branches and student members at 20 medical schools in NY and NJ. Facilitated activation of five new chapters during tenure. Organized a two-day regional conference in 2014 entitled “Empowering Future Leaders in Medicine,” with over 70 medical students, residents and physicians from across NY and NJ in attendance. Encouraged interest and activity in programming that promote women in medicine.

Performed tobacco cessation consultations for in-patients as part of a service learning program. Recruited and facilitated the training of new counselors and participated in curriculum review. Primary investigator on a quality improvement and advocacy project seeking to study the efficacy of the AMC tobacco cessation counseling program, identify and implement quality improvement measures based on health management principles, and advocate for greater access to tobacco cessation services for patients.

Assisted in completion of the Schenectady County Community Health Status Assessment, the coordination the West Indian Community Diabetes Screening event under the federal REACH grant, and creation of a marketing campaign to increase community diabetes education. Attended weekly seminars on relevant public health issues.

Created and published newsletter for Sociology Department students, faculty and staff once per term. Oversaw newsletter editorial staff.

Founding member. Created and executed personalized smoking cessation counseling sessions for uninsured and under-insured patients. Assessed an individual’s readiness to quit smoking, educated about the dangers of smoking and options for quitting, and tailored quit plans which included the proper delivery of nicotine replacement therapy. Interviewed, selected and trained new group of counselors. Honored by New York State Tobacco Control Program under category of Addressing Tobacco Use and Dependence (April 4, 2011)

Represented the interests future underrepresented minority medical students. Created programming to assist minority students seeking careers in medicine and in allied health professions. Coordinated community service and volunteer activities for pre-medical students. Provide informational sessions to local high schools students interested in the science fields. Worked closely with SNMA regional and national boards to provide career planning and training for minority medical students. Served as delegate for the Union College chapter at SNMA national conference.

Managed production of weekly 20-page college newspaper. Supervised editorial staff of 25 and administer day-to-day operations. Created official Concordiensis Stylebook. Serve as Lead Copy Editor: trained and managed staff of copy editors to oversee copyediting, including adherence to the official Concordiensis Stylebook and the Associated Press Stylebook. Assisted Editors-in-Chief with decisions pertaining to activities of the Concordiensis and its staff, including media ethics, expanding distribution and marketing. Wrote, administered and evaluated Newspaper Readership Survey.

Observed attending physician and residents in Rehabilitation Medicine, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy departments. Attended rounds and patient-care team conferences. Tracked progress of patients through various therapy sessions.

Assisted in the process and quality monitoring of new patient safety initiatives and procedures. Conducted analysis and reporting for Performance Improvement and Clinical Review Committee meetings. Analyzed physician follow-up on patient incident reports, complication occurrence reports, and risk management issues.
