Research Experience:● Food Safety as an Intervention Point for Sustainable Food Systems: Developed survey to establish a baseline of consumer perceptions and demands for food safety in traditional markets. The survey, coupled with semi-structured interviews with policymakers, created new insights in the potential role of food safety labeling as a means of creating better access and consumption of safe vegetables for low-middle income consumers in traditional markets with positive spillover effects in other food system domains●Land Use System Analysis: Economic Impact of Policy Interventions: Performed an economic land use system analysis to evaluate the impact of recently passed legislation of overtime wages in agriculture on California processing tomatoes ●Survey Research Methods: Smallholder Farmers and Good Agricultural Practices: Studied farmer perceptions and understanding of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in Cambodia to be used to inform the development of GAP trainings to achieve food safety certification●California Farm Labor: Studied farm labor rights and violations to assess the potential role of fair labor certifications as a public-private solution to reduce farm labor violations and improve working conditions

●Conducted research on the relationship between food safety policies and traditional vegetable markets in Vietnam●Created and deployed consumer baseline survey to inform VECO’s safe vegetable value chains●Provided survey analysis and marketing plan to inform future food safety communication

The Russell Ranch Sustainable Agriculture Facility is a unique 300-acre facility near the UC Davis campus dedicated to investigating irrigated and dry-land agriculture in a Mediterranean climate. It's also a unit of the Agricultural Sustainability Institute (ASI). Among Russell Ranch's ongoing experiments is a 100-year study referred to as Long Term Research in Agricultural Sustainability (LTRAS), which is comprised of 72 one-acre plots.Responsibilities Included:●Database management of various seeds, crop development, and on-farm inputs for processing tomatoes. ●Documented crop growth, soil testing and analysis, and development differences between conservation tillage vs. conventional tillage and organic vs. conventional.●Host annual field day for industry leaders and local growers to share new findings that could support California processing tomato growers.
