I am a Mechanical Engineer designing replacement parts for ion implantation tools using extensive knowledge in refractory metals and ceramics.Due to the nature of the ion implantation process our products must be able to withstand high temperatures. The expansion and contraction of certain parts as well as their transient electrical properties must be closely monitored to avoid tool shutdowns that could cost clients from $100,000 to $1 billion resulting from but not limited to the contamination of a production wafer lot.I use CAD and FEM software to generate 3-D models, assemblies, and technical drawings in order to create a prototype, communicate with vendors and manufacture a future production part.COMSOL Multi-Physics software allows me to solve situations in which Joule heating, conduction, convection and radiation could affect the mechanical or electrical properties of valuable equipment components.Additionally I use the OGP Smart Scope FLASH, SeeBreeze, FARO arm Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and other metrology tools to provide quality assurance. These tools are also used for reverse engineering when needed.
