What began as a simple love for entertaining people, grew into a passion for hospitality and customer service. It all started my freshman year of high school when I first became involved with the theatre community and began putting on productions of various plays, musicals, one-acts, and various other shows. The thrill of performing and making people happy was what I lived for. When I would come out to the lobby after shows and interact with all the people who had just seen me perform, many of whom I had never met before, their praise and admiration drove my love for the art of performing.Outside of school, my biggest passion has always been cooking. My father moved to the United States from Mexico City when he was 18 and worked in kitchens across the country until finally opening his own authentic Mexican Restaurant in my hometown of Durham, North Carolina. Growing up, I loved working at the restaurant and helping the family business, something most kids my age would have hated. Just like with theatre, I loved interacting with the guests and seeing their faces light up as they tasted the food my father and I had prepared using his mother’s recipes passed down to her from generation to generation. Making people happy has always been my biggest motivator. There is nothing as fulfilling to me as putting a smile on someone else’s face. Naturally, the hospitality and recreation industry has become the perfect fit for me. When people ask me if I plan to go back home after school and running my dad’s restaurant, I always say the same thing. As much as I love it back home, I want to forge my own path.
