About Alejandro Ramos, Ph.D., Pmp
My early experiences using Lean and Six Sigma to improve processes quickly showed me that, when it comes to making changes that last, quite often the missing piece of the puzzle is getting the employees on board for the long haul. This led me to my education at WMU, which I feel has tremendously expanded my toolkit in making the kinds of changes that organizational strategic goals dictate - and doing so in a manner that is sustainable. Adding the human component, as well as a project management perspective, allows me to ensure that projects are designed with these variables in mind so that they are undertaken, implemented, and endure smoothly. In addition to this, my experiences as an educator and teammate in various capacities have left me with a great passion for learning and growth, both for myself and for others who are a part of my team. My hope is to merge these aspects of myself by driving teams toward the sorts of process and performance improvements that organizations dream of!
Listed skills include Six Sigma, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, and 10 others.

Program Manager
Planned, coordinated, and executed new product introductions, including planning of processes and layouts, acquisition of fixtures, integration of associates and automation, training of relevant department leaders, and review of implementation. Coordinated interdepartmental teamwork for special projects and kaizen activities, ensuring communication to and buy-in from all relevant departments. Systex adhered to the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
Production Engineer
I was responsible for optimizing production processes (old and new) throughout our two manufacturing plants in Michigan. I also supervised and carried out cycle time and workflow metrics and reviews, as well as scrap tracking and reduction activities. With our QC team, I worked to determine root causes of defects/failures and orchestrated/implemented corrective actions when necessary. I led performance and process improvement projects, collaborating with operators, die-setters, team leaders, QC, technicians, and production management to continuously improve the work flow and processes for operators and material handlers across our 86 plastic injection-molding machines and hundreds of products. Improvements included: redesigned layouts that minimized non-value added activities; implemented conveyor systems that reduced material handling; and designed ergonomic work stations that enabled operators to process their parts more quickly. I also trained our production, quality, and shipping department leaders on the basics of Lean, including 5S, root cause analysis, elimination of waste, and optimization of workflow.
Instructor Of Record, Statistics For The Behavioral Sciences (Psy 3000)
Prior to the start of the fall semester, I led our group of instructors (for the different course sections) through the creation of the online instructional materials, including presentations, practice problems, answer sheets, exams, and e-learning website. Then, each semester, I taught statistics to between 30 and 40 students in a remote setting with the help of one teaching assistant (TA). During each semester, my TA and I were involved in meeting individually with students, grading exams, analyzing the data to determine struggle areas, and modifying course materials where necessary.
Adjunct Faculty, Introductory Psychology (Psych 150)
In this role, I was responsible for the creation of the curriculum for my course. To that end, I determined the relevant chapter readings, developed study objectives, lecture presentations, practice problems, and exams. I also met with students individually, graded exams, provided feedback, and revised my materials for any shortcomings I discovered along the way. Each semester, I taught introductory psychology to between 15 and 40 students.
Instructor Of Record, Organizational Psychology (Psy 2444)
Each semester, I taught behavioral systems analysis to between 30 and 40 students, with the help of three teaching assistants (TAs). With the course supervisor and the instructor and TAs from another section of this course, we developed the course materials which included lectures, exams, fictional companies for our student groups of four to conduct their projects on, and tools for our students to analyze the performer, process, and organizational levels of those fictional companies.
Instructor Of Record, Statistics For The Behavioral Sciences (Psy 3000)
Each semester, I taught statistics to between 30 and 40 undergraduate students, with the help of two teaching assistants. For this, I created lecture presentations, practice exercises, exams, and answer sheets. My teaching assistants helped me by providing feedback on anything that was unclear / common student struggle areas. We also held office hours, met with students individually as necessary, and graded exams.
Instructional Design Consultant (Advanced Instructional Design & Training Practicum)
This was part of a practicum course at WMU for my master's that involved collaboration between our two faculty supervisors and the associate dean and various professors at Cooley Law School. In my role, I met with the associate dean and a professor at Cooley to determine the challenges they were facing with student learning in a given course. Once the semester began, I also analyzed in-class and homework activities, sat-in on classes, and met with students to further gauge their struggles. With the guidance of my supervisors and consent of the relevant Cooley faculty, I then undertook modifications to the instructional materials, including redesigning the syllabi, changing instructional methods and assessments, and developing flashcards for students to use. Our group's contributions and impacts earned us each individual acknowledgements in Nelson P. Miller's book "Teaching Law: A Behavioral Approach", which covers in great detail many of our collective modifications/improvements to Cooley's instructional systems. *Please also note that I was a part of this ongoing practicum at its onset, in the fall semester of 2015, after which I continued with other coursework (to give other students an opportunity to be a part of this team), before being asked to return in the spring semester of 2017.
