Hello and welcome to my page! My name's Alesia and I'm an aspiring Child Life Specialist. While I have numerous passions in life, if I had to sum myself up in a few short words it would revolve around family, kids, soccer, and honestly chocolate. I am a fanatic Liverpool FC fan whose ideal day would involve a win for my team, some visits from family, and a Nutella sandwich. Growing up surrounded by a large Italian family, I became accustomed to a chaotic environment where laughter and kids running all over the place was the norm. It was this kid-filled, unpredictable environment that made me want to work in a career supporting children.Since then, my choices have reflected this. From volunteering as a soccer coach, to tutoring kids with learning disabilities, or assisting in pediatric physical therapy programs, I have tried to put myself in a variety of environments where I am working with children. I also completed my undergraduate degree in Child Health at Brock University in 2020. After four years of taking Child & Youth and Health Sciences courses, as well as working as a Camp Instructor for Brock's Youth University programs, I was more than ready to move into the next stage of my life. In September of 2020, I entered my first year of Brock's two-year Bachelor of Education Program and received my full teaching certification for the Primary/Junior grade level in June of 2022. I have worked as an Occasional Teacher with the DSBN for the last two years. While I love supporting children in a classroom environment, I’ve always had a passion for healthcare. I want to take the knowledge, skills, and abilities I’ve gained from working in the education system to individually support children facing health-related challenges. I am currently volunteering at Niagara Health and SickKids Hospital to gain the crucial experience needed to understand and excel in this field. In September of 2024, I will begin the Masters of Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care program at McMaster University! Ultimately, I hope to one day work as a Certified Child Life Specialist helping children and families cope with the stresses of disease, illness, or hospitalization.
