My graduation project entailed the design and synthesis of new resins, derived from renewable pine chemicals in combination with other monomers, aimed at specific industrial applications. A structure-property relationship analysis was applied in order to guide molecular design. This resulted in a variety of new resin product candidates having improved material properties. The proper incorporation of the monomers was confirmed by NMR analysis. Kraton, is intending to initiate further investigations based on the promising results from this research.

The aim of this research was to immobilize a [FeFe]-hydrogenase mimic, proton-reduction catalyst to three different chemical linkers with anchoring groups to immobilize the catalyst onto fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) electrodes. The immobilized catalyst is one of the key components of a photo driven water-splitting device. The chemical linkers were synthesized and the activity of the catalyst was tested with cyclic voltammetry once immobilized on the FTO electrode. The catalyst was successfully immobilized using one chemical linker and resulted in an irreversible two electron reduction.
