The project aims to further reduce and mitigate the risk of geological hazards in favelas, collaborating with the network of volunteers provided by the Niterói Municipal Civil Defense Agency. The project team, municipal Civil Defense and community volunteers will work together to design a community risk mapping module, which will be included in the standard Civil Defense volunteer training curriculum. To address this issue, civil defense plans to integrate community risk mapping into standard training for civil defense volunteers. After training, volunteers will create more detailed maps, including various types of hazards and insights into the impact of disasters. These maps will help civil defense prioritize risk reduction efforts, contributing to municipal budget allocation and disaster reduction. Additionally, local volunteers will be able to identify homes in need of structural improvements. Integrating the new module into volunteer training will thus improve disaster response and reduce risks.
