I lead the IH expert community in DSM-FIRMENICH (IH Tier-1 network), liaise with colleagues in various functions to ensure IH topics are understood and addressed professionally and according to latest industrial standards and developments. I safeguard IH-knowledge and competences through an external network with peer companies and education institutes.
Board Member
CurrentBoard member of the SOFHYT - French Society of Occupational Hygienists. I'm mainly active in the cooperation with other industrial hygiene associations abroad. Board Member
Current
Industrial Hygiene And Occupational Health Manager, Europe
I was used to coordinate Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Occupational Health (OH) activities of 39 production facilities throughout Europe. Prior to my arrival, O-I had done spectacular progresses in terms of injury reduction but there were still large margins of progress in terms of industrial hygiene management. In a newly created role, my main challenges were making occupational health more prominent in the company culture while at the same time building a sustainable and effective IH management system. In this role I had no direct report but I had the possibility to influence company decisions by cooperating with the main internal functions, including human resources, engineering, procurement and of course EHS managers in plants and regions. I also had a prominent position in cooperating and influencing trade associations and other regulatory activities. Major achievement: Despite the budgetary restrictions typical of a commodity business, we achieved in a short period a three fold reduction in the number of occupational diseases, we improved compliance with IH&OH laws and regulations in the European region and identified and mitigated numerous work related risks.
Industrial Hygienist
I was used to work at the Solvay headquarter as corporate industrial hygienist. I had a key role in the development and deployment of the Group programs for the assessment and control of risks which may arise in the workplace, including exposures to chemical substances and non-chemical hazards (e.g.: noise, legionella, etc). I helped production sites in applying the Group programs and policies, by training local hygienists and assisting them in identifying and designing appropriate risk reduction measures. I was involved in corporate processes such as the safety data sheets validation and the definition of Reach exposure scenarios. I assessed the industrial hygiene risks of major investment projects during their design phase. I participated to the internal audit program. I developed internal key performance indicators to track improvements in Industrial hygiene. I participated in lobbying groups, such as Cefic (the European Chemical Industry Council). Major achievement: I led the internal program for the assessment of ergonomic stressors. This has required the development of a dedicated piece of software, award-winner of the 2011 Belgian contest for HSE related innovations.
Process Engineer
I was in charge of the constant improvement of the production process. I was used to define the specifications for new projects and follow their implementation in close contact with the technical division. I managed quality non-conformities in accordance with ISO 9000 regulations; I supervised the respect of production targets in accordance with the management. Furthermore I was involved in the management of the HSE issues: one of my tasks was the chemical risk assessment of the company.Major achievement: I developed new methods in order to define production parameters and designed a software in order to determine these parameters automatically. Therefore we manage to improve quality while optimising production cost.
Project Leader
I led a development team (3 to 5 members, depending on projects) in one of the R&D divisions of the group. I've been in charge of developing small displacement two-stroke engines. My main tasks included planning and organizing test campaigns (both the internal and the outsourced ones), guaranteeing the respect of internal standards, keeping in contact with design/production/quality divisions, dealing with customers about technical matters. Major achievement: We developed and implemented a new engine control method for pollutants reduction.
Project Engineer
I was one of the leading members of the Formula Student team of the University of Ferrara. This competition consists in designing, building and racing a formula-style racing car car
