When I put on the bonnet and picked up the musket, I knew that this was a career that I wanted to pursue. This was one of my experiences during my summer job as a costumed tour guide at a small museum in my hometown. It’s safe to say that I fell in love with museums during that summer and I haven’t looked back since. I studied archaeology in university and had another great experience during an internship where I traveled to local schools and used interactive activities to teach kids about archaeology. One of my favorite activities was when we planned a simulated dig with giant tubs of sand and artifacts for the kids to apply the learnings they grasped from a full day of archaeological activities. They got the opportunity to dig through the sand to identify real artifacts, and determine the type of archaeological site they were excavating based on those artifacts. 🔍Now the majority of my experience is in project management and development for small museums. In my role, I do everything from coordinating professional development opportunities to researching potential community partners and developing relationships with them.I’m truly at my best when I’m organizing, cataloging, and making project and corporate documents, resources, funding applications, and pretty much any document easy to find. It’s incredibly satisfying because my work alleviates stress and makes everyone’s work less frustrating. Through my work, I’ve become an expert in records management in SharePoint. 📁I'm really excited about the opportunity to learn more about social media platforms. My organization is active on Facebook and Instagram, and I pinpointed a need for a central location to house and organize social media content, so I created a calendar for everyone to access.Overall, I am fulfilled with this work because I find history fascinating and museums are critical for fostering understanding about our past to help us comprehend our present, and cultivate meaningful connections in communities; but unfortunately, history is often presented in boring, limited, and inaccessible formats. When approached with thoughtfulness and intent, history can be fun, engaging, and inclusive. I really enjoy seeing people engage with museum exhibits and programming, especially when it helps spark a new passion or interest. 🏛️If you’re also passionate about museums and nonprofits, I’d love to connect with you! Please send me a connection request; look forward to connecting! 📨
