Profile bio

About Alex Basche

As a psychotherapist, I use a positive, strength-based approach to foster genuine self-acceptance and meaningful change. My philosophy centers around building and harnessing connections between the body, emotions, beliefs, thoughts and behaviors to enable healing and growth. This is an active, engaged and evidence-based approach that addresses the whole person. I specialize in treating digital process addictions & misuse (e.g. gaming, social media, pornography, compulsive shopping) in adolescents and young adults. In addition, my specialty encompasses frequently co-occurring conditions such as Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Depressive Disorders, OCD, Autism Spectrum, academic or work-related difficulties, social and romantic relationship issues, life transitions & feeling 'stuck', and identity difficulties. I am an integrative clinician, meaning I use a variety of methodologies. Much like a tree, my approach grows and branches out depending on what will best serve each client. The roots of my approach are in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Therapies. I am trained in Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Therapy, Gestalt, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Gottman Therapy. In addition, I have received extensive training in many forms of CBT (Internet Addiction, Insomnia, Exposure & Response Prevention, Trauma-Focused). I only use methods that are backed by thorough research and evidence. My professional development is fueled by an ever-present curiosity and thus I am routinely engaged in psychotherapy trainings around the globe in addition to cutting-edge research analysis. My private practice includes clinical consultation, ranging from providing guidance to several mental health startups to serving as an expert witness. I enjoy delivering workshops and lectures on these subjects to over 30 organizations across California, including treatment centers, clinics, county mental health programs, and nonprofits. I co-founded California's first in-network outpatient program dedicated to addressing technology-related misuse & addictions in adolescents. I am a published researcher, serving as a clinical consultant for a number of research projects in the European Union for the past 3 years. I continue to co-author and present research on digital addictions with a particular focus on Game Transfer Phenomena. This includes presenting at national and international conferences, doing Q&A sessions and collaborating with a fantastic team of researchers led by Dr Angelica B. Ortiz de Gortari.

Listed skills include Cognitive Therapy, Computer Repair, Addiction Recovery, Case Managment, and 22 others.
