I work on a number of maths (e-)assessment projects for the UK and abroad. including:- NAPLAN: managing the writing, reviewing, and authoring (in HTML) of numeracy items for these federal online tests which reach millions of Australian students each year.- Ofqual's National Reference Test: acting as one of the (two) maths leads, overseeing refresh development, marking, and reporting.- KS1/2 SATs trialling: managing the creation and data analysis of teacher and administrator questionnaires.I co-lead the Centre for Assessment's training programme and have represented NFER at conferences internationally.

Windsor

I worked on the pedagogy, technology, and UX design of interactive content. My responsibilities included:- ownership of a project to expand the class of mathematical expressions that our systems can parse and evaluate, and hence that our learners can answer questions with. - generating HTML slideshow-solutions for geometry problems. Highlights direct attention and callouts provide justification as the figure is updated until the required quantity is found.I inherited the first project and revived it by creating a demo, using MathQuill to provide intuitive input and writing a custom parser to provide effective feedback. I devised and initiated the second project, working with the content team in Windsor to refine and extend the idea, and the design and development teams in Cairo (whom I visited in July 2017) to implement the desired functionality.In addition to my main role, I was involved in recruitment, creating and reviewing content, and UX design. In particular, I advocated improvement to accessibility in the company’s content and interfaces.

Fixed term contract as part of a small team producing A level maths content for an early stage startup. This involved creating and reviewing written (re)introductions to concepts, questions reinforcing and developing those concepts, and videos containing guidance and worked solutions.

Chennai Area, India

- Wrote and directed animated interactive content to explain mathematical concepts intuitively and visually. This content was created for a variety of countries and curricula, generally at the secondary school level.- Twice developed and led two-day teacher training workshops for teachers in Colombia. The content had to be accessible and useful for teachers of grades 3 - 11, some of whom were not mathematics specialists.- Assisted ActionScript programmers by coding some of the more mathematically sophisticated activities. In particular I wrote the code to calculate and display current and voltage values for an electrical circuit simulator.- Spearheaded and then managed the conversion of content from Flash to HTML5 for use on tablet devices. I started as a team of one, researching and developing solutions, before scaling up the process, growing the team and delivering the first batch of content on time and to spec. In addition to managing this project I also helped to inform the pedagogy and usability, and developed JavaScript libraries to implement common functionality.
