Throughout the pandemic response I had been working on the PPE response from the EPRR perspective including the challenges of working through the "Push" model. An opportunity came up to take on the wider logistics role for a year and use the learning from the pandemic response to implement change and increase resilience in the business as usual delivery of logistics.

Working for SECAmb as an Emergency Planning, Response and Resilience (EPRR) officer is an opportunity to put into practice the theoretical learning from my Masters in Disaster Healthcare & my Diploma in health EPRR. This is an opportunity to combine my theoretical knowledge with the practical experience of working as an operative on the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).This is a six month contract that is focused on preparation for a potential EU exit.

Working for the local authority was a good opportunity to put into practice the knowledge gained during my Masters in Disaster Healthcare and work outside of the healthcare sector. While working for the local authority I worked with a wide range of partners on projects ranging from reviewing mass fatalities arrangements to ensuring communities have access to rest centers in emergencies. During my time at the local authority I also helped to facilitate debriefs following incidents.I left this role after a year to return to the NHS to utilise my training and experience in a healthcare setting.

I worked as a lecturer at the University and held the position of professional lead for the Paramedic programs. I taught across a range of modules on several paramedic programs on topics ranging from clinical skills to management of the trauma and major incident management.The University was a good opportunity to develop presentation skills, teaching techniques and the creation of learning materials.

As a member of the HART response clinical excellence is provided in challenging environments, ranging from Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) incidents to flood and urban search and rescue environments. Working in these conditions require close coordination with multiple agencies and joint working is a key theme of the HART role. Within the team I act as a team 2nd in command regularly acting up as team leader on occasions that there is no team leader on duty. The position includes co-ordinating the team in the provision of care and taking responsibility for the safety of the team

As a registered paramedic my role involved providing pre-hospital care to a wide range of service users and treating, transferring or referring patients to appropriate services where applicable.
