As part of the Nanophotonics team I work to develop AR technology and improve current methods through research driven approaches for nanofabrication. My main area of focus is on the hard mastering but also working on materials, metrology and scalability to explore the nanolithography required to push the boundaries of what is possible.

Working in Photonics on a compact realisation of a biosensor. The research I was conducting has given me practical skills in nano-fabrication and clean room working from our ISO6 cleanroom. I used techniques including E-Beam and photolithography, wet etching, metal evaporation, RIE, wafer dicing and Photonic testing. This is was all with the aim of developing a photonic biosensor based on guided mode resonance.I presented talks on some of my work at CLEO Europe in 2019 and Biosensors 2021 on the device implementation and have presented a poster at Sensors in Medicin 2019. While conducting my PhD I also assisted teaching at the university of York by leading problem classes and seminars with undergraduate students and demonstrating in the 2nd and 3rd year experimental laboratories. The for the 3rd year experiments I planned a 4 week experiment and wrote a laboratory script for the students to follow in creating a III-V semiconductor laser including the stages of Design, modelling, fabrication and characterisation.I was also involved in science outreach and public engagement such a the PhD Spotlight in the 2020 YorkTalks as well as doing demonstrations in schools.

Working as a Student Ambassador involves working closley with admissions staff and prospective students. The main role is to show the candidates the university campus and answer any questions they or their parents may have.There are also opportunities to work on out reach programs such as the fairs held at the university promoting science to school children or the general public.

Working within the group to re-optimize and re-engineer a Hilger & Watts spectrometer for Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescent detection. this involved using optical equipment and systems to optimise and develop an optical setup, including an optical bench.The main aim was to evaluate and review the functionality of the spectrometer and proposing changes to be made to improve its functionality. this involved reviewing and developing Python and LabVIEW Programming for motor control and data acquisition. At the end of the project the alterations were not complete however a coarse of action was proposed to complete the work and so to make the spectrometer available for use in other projects.
