I have dedicated myself to the heavy civil construction industry and happened to build a passion along the way for the work and the people who do the work. On paper my career appears to have made a traditional progression but in reality, this is far from true. I started my career working in an office where we wore blazers and took clients out to baseball games and fishing charters. These days I refine my farmer's tan and typically go home with muddy boots. I love both environments and wouldn't trade my experiences for anything. A few years back I stepped up into a field leadership position. I didn't grow up running equipment and only had a few opportunities to do so early in my career. I didn't even have my own set of equipment keys when I found myself in charge of a foreman and a handful of operators and laborers. The past 2+ years have been a wild ride and I've grown in ways that I never thought were possible. Will I ever be a master craftsman? Probably not, but I hope that my passion for seeing great work through to completion and developing other tradesmen and leaders along the way is making a positive difference in our industry. I've been fortunate to connect with the fine folks at BuildWitt and I believe in their noble mission to make the dirt world (heavy civil and extraction industries) a better place to grow a career. Assistant SuperintendentBlythe Construction, Inc. Nov 2020 - PresentCharlotte, Nc, UsI was wanting more responsibility and more field experience so in November 2020 I transitioned to the assistant super role at NC540 that I still hold today. I started out managing subcontractor support work for MSE walls and noise walls and evolved my crews into self-performed grading work and miscellaneous concrete work. Currently leading a team of 10+ operators and skilled laborers laying road base, installing permanent barrier walls, and building rock-lined and concrete ditches while still supporting noise wall subcontractors. I'm building an all-star team to go build many more projects.

Field And Project EngineerBlythe Construction, Inc. Apr 2019 - Oct 2020Charlotte, Nc, UsI worked in the office for six months prior to breaking ground on NC540 and was on site from day one once work commenced. During my time in the office I set up many of the large purchase orders and subcontracts and during my time in the field I did whatever needed to be done (mainly assisting the bridge substructure superintendent) to get us started on the right foot. I also had the opportunity to mentor and manage a few younger engineers during this time and teach them how to do takeoffs and track job costs and quantities.

I got an excellent introduction to Blythe's systems and processes and got to work with some truly legendary superintendents--Jerry Queen and Sampson Parker.

Project Engineer And EstimatorPolivka International Jun 2015 - Jun 2017Weddington, Nc, UsI launched my professional career with Polivka International, a family-owned civil GC entirely focused on railroad infrastructure. I was given a ton of responsibility right away and took on project management duties on rail terminal expansion projects in Texas, Oklahoma, and Canada. I also played gopher for the chief estimator throughout my tenure with Polivka. My most prominent project included heavily phased self-performed earthwork with a massive on-road trucking scope where I really honed my skills scoping and managing subcontractors. This project also included complex MEP systems as well as extensive wet and dry utility relocations. I realized that I wasn't getting the early-career hands on experience that I needed by visiting projects for a few days at a time and decided to move to Blythe Construction in order to work on job sites daily.
