In this role I appealed denied insurance claims. As a National Electronic Attachment specialist, I identified why claims were denied, I then collected and sent supporting documents necessary to appeal the claim. To properly carry out my role, it was necessary to form a general familiarity with ADA procedure codes as well as with radiographs, in order to send the appropriate documentation toinsurance carriers.

During this internship I learned about various dental prosthetics and had the opportunity to use new dental technology. I poured models, created anatomical wax buildups, and trimmed and polished night-guards and retainers. I had the opportunity to use an intra-oralscanner. I was also exposed to CAD/CAMdesign and was able to design and print a retainer. One of my primary responsibilities was scanning models and impressions which I then sent to outside labs for fabrication.

As a dental assistant I sterilized instruments, cleaned and prepped operatories, and assisted the dentist with various procedures. I was amazed at the dentist's ability to quickly identify problems and execute a treatment plan. It was gratifying to see patients who suffered from pain leave healthy. I also saw how patients were affected by the aesthetic of their smile. It was moving to see patients light up after procedures.
