    My friend and I set out to put power back into the hands of the SMB owners by helping them control and optimize their daily deal campaigns. We were the first to hold contracts with both large daily deal companies (like Groupon), and the merchant where as our share of the proceeds came entirely out of the daily deal companies share without lowering our clients' profit at all. The business took off rapidly - hitting $50K in revenue the third month. After growing the SF-area business, I left to begin DM San Diego. Shortly after moving, the VP and co-founder of Groupon met with us and cancelled the agency agreement we had put in place prior to our launch. He did offer my CEO a position in Groupon's sales department, which was insulting to say the least. Both our clients and Groupon benefitted from the relationship. The only reason they shut us out was because their sales team could not compete with ours.
