TMS is Superior to Residual CHCl3 for Use as the Internal Reference for Routine 1H NMR Spectra Recorded in CDCl3• Developed a method to quantify the inertness and therefore effectiveness of tetramethylsilane (TMS) as an internal standard compared to residual CHCl3 for 1H NMR referencing. • The corresponding manuscript was selected as an Editor’s Choice & Featured Article, is cited on the “Internal Standard” Wikipedia page, and was one of the most read JOC articles in 2022. 2:1 Adducts Arising from Reactions between Benzynes and 1,3,4-Oxadiazoles• Discovered novel hexadehydro-Diels–Alder (HDDA) benzyne reactivity leading to a new class ofpseudo-helical compounds and the first example of a dearomatized HDDA product. • Elucidated a mechanistic manifold involving a rarely posited concerted SNAr process through the use density functional theory (DFT) computations. Synthesis of Structurally Complex Cyclopropanes via Free Carbenes Derived from Alkynes • Developed a method to synthesize complex cyclopropane products in a metal-free and 100% atom economical fashion. • Mentored a visiting undergraduate summer researcher who made significant research contributions and is now pursuing a PhD in organic chemistry Three-Component Trapping Reactions of Free Carbenes Derived from Alkynes • Innovated a three-component carbene trapping methodology which expanded the synthetic utility of free carbenes derived from alkynes. • Enables rapid access to a diverse array of complex heterocycle-containing systems.

Development of Gelation Conditions for Polycatenar Ligand Metallogels • Initiated a collaboration with computational chemistry professor Travis Harris to model polycatenar ligand-ligand interactions using DFT computations.

As a Peer Mentor for the Student Accessibility and Accommodations office, I held weekly meetings with mentees that are focused on problem-solving and goal setting.

I participated in the University of Utah Chemistry NSF/REU program the summer of 2019. I worked in the laboratory of Professor Andrew G. Roberts, researching a more general method to synthesize macrocyclic peptides. During the research experience, I gained new skill sets in prep. HPLC, 2D TLC, and solid-phase peptide synthesis.

As a chemistry subject tutor, I provided peer tutoring for students in university chemistry courses. I held individualized tutoring sessions, collaborated with faculty to host exam review sessions, and developed pedagogical tools focused on accessible learning.

During the summer of 2018, I conducted research in the Boisvert Lab at the University of Puget Sound developing oraganocatalysts for amide formation. I synthesized a series of bifunctional thiourea catalysts and benchmarked their catalytic behavior through 1H NMR tracking experiments.

At the University of St. Thomas, I mentored a group of Breck Advanced Science Research students under guidance of Dr. Small in the Department of Environmental Biology. The students investigated how watering rates and calcium chloride treatment impacted nutrient loss from urban gardens. I primarily guided the students on experimental design and project planning.
