Assistant Winemaker
CurrentWorks directly with Winemaker in all facets of winemaking process. Ensures smooth workflow of winemaking operations, prioritizes tasks that need to be accomplished, and maintains the production calendar. Prepares work orders, assists in data management, maintains reports and inventory through Vintrace software. Reviews and implements SOPS for winery equipment and procedures. Responsible for quality and execution of work performed. Engaged in safety training and management of compliance issues in the laboratory and cellar environment to provide a safe workplace. Manages all harvest intern hiring, training, and scheduling. Creates a positive atmosphere within production team to promote teamwork, quality of work, and enthusiasm. Generates and produces all lab analysis. Conducts physical, chemical, and microbial analysis. Oversees and maintains laboratory safety and updates procedures and safety material data sheets. Responsible for all calibrations, instrument maintenance, repairs, and maintaining lab supplies. Conducts and coordinates all trials and lends expertise to investigate new products appropriate for fining and additives. Inspects incoming wine additives to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards. Maintains analytical records for all packaged wines and additives. Performs Quality Control inspecting for bottling line. Microbiology monitoring, fill height checks, CO2, DO, alcohol, and SO2 before and during bottling. Inspects all packaging to ensure it is correct. Provides sensory analysis in cellar to ensure wine quality. Prepares and participates in blending and fining trials. Provides technical winemaking support to Winemaker and production staff. Assists in supervising wine production operations, grape receiving, crushing, pressing, and all harvest operations. Participates in wine tasting at all stages throughout the winemaking process and is responsible for conducting evaluation and recommendations of treatments.
