I am a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. I am looking to go into the government sector because I have desire to strengthen communities and further policies that benefit everyday Americans. I can accomplish this through various skills I have developed from my time at the University of Texas at Austin and my experience in a legislative office, at a nonprofit, and on a campaign. I believe my abilities of political analysis, writing, and determination to produce positive change can greatly contribute to the work environment of my next position.I developed my skill in political analysis at UT Austin, where I graduated with a BA in Government with honors. The primary aim of politics must be to help the common good of the people, and I have a clear vision of many current issues with our country and what a better country could look like. One project that helped me focus this skill was a paper in which I analyzed the “causal stories” in the public consciousness that shaped welfare policy. I examined the narratives that grew around this type of policy and how it affected the policy that was actually implemented. I also minored in philosophy, in which I focused on ethics and political philosophy. This helped me gain a better understanding of what a good life is and how societies can be shaped to facilitate that.I am also proficient in different kinds of writing, including academic papers, informal essays, letters and communications from government offices, talking points, memos, and research papers. I have experience writing various materials through school, my work in the office of NYC Council Member Margaret Chin, and my work at the Holdsworth Center.When I worked as the field director for Maud Maron for City Council, it required me to cultivate teamwork and leadership skills, as well as work extremely hard to accomplish our goals. During the last weeks of the campaign, I was frequently working longer than eight hours days, seven days a week. The work was often difficult and required both physical effort and organizational work, but I was willing to do it because I bring my best effort up to any task necessary. I am committed to giving the same dedication to my next position.
