Every entrepreneur has their own ah-ha moment and mine happened in 2012. I was interested in pursuing a career in dentistry and it all seemed appropriate given I was a second-year Nutritional Sciences student at the University of British Columbia. Then, my mother was involved in a car accident and the months of stress and agony with the insurance company over a case that seemed so straightforward got me thinking - if only there was video evidence. I was born in South Korea and have heard of the many benefits of dash cams, or black box as they were called. I ordered a couple of dash cams from South Korea and installed them in my parents as well as my own car. At the time, dash cams were still a lesser-known gadget in Canada so one can only imagine the curiosity and interest they drew; soon I was explaining, educating and recommending the dash cam to all of my friends and family, and that was how the idea of BlackboxMyCar was conceived. Multiple part-time jobs since high school have allowed me to experience different positions and meet all sorts of people. The summer where I worked 2 jobs day and night to fund my Europe-trip has taught me about exposure to different jobs and the importance of expanding our horizons through travel. I have also worked as a tutor, and that’s where I learned I loved the responsibility, flexibility, and creativity of working for myself. That’s when BlackboxMyCar went from a concept to an action plan. BlackboxMyCar has become the recognized leader in the dashcam industry. Starting with just two brands, we have grown the business to offer more than seven top-quality dashcam brands sourced from Korea, China, Israel, and the UK. With a keen eye for market trends and a dedication to customer satisfaction, we have scaled the company to achieve eight figures in yearly sales.To support our growth and global reach, we have assembled a dynamic team that spans from Asia to North America. But our mission goes beyond simply supplying dashcams. Beyond BlackboxMyCar, we actively invest in startups and collaborate with companies in Asia to help them establish a presence in North America. Moreover, we are launching other categories of products, in addition to dashcams.
