Npd/Technical Engineer Ii
As a technical engineer I speak with customers to address customer complaints and present new technical advancements. In new product development we create new foam types to address industry needs such as sustainability or coextruded foams.
Process Engineer I
Toray Plastics in Front Royal VA makes polyolefin foams for automotive interior trim, industrial, and flooring applications. As a process engineer I maintained processes for resin blending, sheet extrusion, electron beam irradiation, and foaming.
Plasma Etch Process Engineer
At SRI International I worked in the Microcircuit Emulation Center as a Process Engineer for the plasma etch process to support low volume manufacturing and development. We manufactured system parts for the DLA and other agencies. I worked with other process engineers to develop processes for new technologies and improve and maintain existing processes.
Associate Chemist
I worked as an Associate Chemist at Church & Dwight in the R&D Fabric Care department. I batched new formulas of liquid and powder laundry detergents, multi-chamber detergent pods, liquid fabric softeners, and scent boosters for new product development and evaluated them against competitor products.

Over time I transitioned into assisting graduate students in the design and construction of two main experiments; to induce atomic vacancies in a material by applying thermal, mechanical, and magnetic stresses to it to attempt to form a magnetic phase known as tetrataenite, and to directly measure the Magnetocaloric Effect of a material to help identify magnetic materials as energy efficient cooling alternatives. Later on, Dr. Laura Lewis brought me to the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM) to learn how to prepare, fabricate, and characterize melt-spun ribbons and magnetic microwires using rapid solidification techniques such as melt-spinning, water-quenching, and the Taylor-Ulitovsky method. Finally I constructed an Induction-Flux Magnetometer to be able to accurately measure the magnetization of long strips of magnetic microwires. Show less

I was brought to ICMM by Dr. Laura Lewis to learn how to create melt-spun ribbons and magnetic microwires. First I learned how to cast magnetic materials into bulk samples by using an arc melter while I studied how to use rapid solidification techniques. I was taught how to use a melt-spinner to create magnetic thin film ribbons, a water-quench machine to create thick magnetic microwires (>100 μm), and a Taylor-Ulitovsky method machine to create very thin glass-coated magnetic microwires… Show more I was brought to ICMM by Dr. Laura Lewis to learn how to create melt-spun ribbons and magnetic microwires. It was here that I learned how an IFM worked so I could replicate it for the Nanomagnetism Group at Northeastern University. The last thing I did was assist in creating a new glass coated bi-phase magnetic microwire. Show less

During this time I was tasked with designing a heat exchanger and sizing a new steam trap to replace a faulty one and I wrote development reports, commissioning protocols, process validation protocols, and SOPs. Finally I assisted in implementing a new product into existing equipment. Show less
