Alex Kavanagh is based in Toronto and has been designing costume for film and television since the mid 90’s. A graduate of the prestigious Dalhousie Costume Studies program, Alex loves to mentor the next generation by teaching costume workshops.Alex designed the costumes for the ambitious rock opera “Repo! The Genetic Opera”, The Kid’s in the Hall comedy miniseries “Death Comes to Town”, as well as Vincenzo Natali’s creepy scifi thriller “Splice”.Her television credits include Disney's "How to Build a Better Boy", "Made: The Movie", and "The Devil's Arithmetic" starring Kirsten Dunst.Her Costume Design credits include “The Vow”, the “Saw” franchise (II - VII), George A. Romero’s “Survival of the Dead”, “Diary of the Dead”, and “Land of the Dead”, “Ginger Snaps” II and III as well as the comedy "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle". Alex was the Costume Supervisor on high profile films "Suicide Squad" and "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" as well as the final season of Guillermo Del Toro's "The Strain".A founding member of the Canadian Alliance Of Film an Television Costume Arts and Design (CAFTCAD), a not-for-profit costume association that promotes and celebrates the costume arts, Alex chaired the popular "From Concept To Creation: An Exhibition Of Canadian Costume Arts And Design" exhibit held in Toronto at Yorkville Village with satellite exhibits at the Toronto Reference Library and xoTO House during TIFF, as well as a preview exhibit at Toronto City Hall during Doors Open. Kavanagh also has her own costume studio where she facilitates costume dying and breakdown for film productions under her "Off With Her Head" banner. Alex is considered an expert in the field and teaches workshops and seminars on the topic of costume aging and distressing, as well as other areas of film costuming.
