Colleagues describe him as "Alex joined my team in September of 2014. Due to the acquisition of The Pantry, I worked with Alex for less than a year. But even in that short period Alex managed to make many valuable contributions to both the team and the company. Even during the interview process, Alex set himself apart from the other candidates with his knowledge and enthusiasm. Alex is a quick learner and extremely bright. His intelligence comes through in his ideas and interactions with people, but he never comes across as condescending. He is not afraid to challenge the status quo and thrives in an environment where he can make a difference. Alex’s best qualities are exemplified through his efforts as a cross-functional team member on an employee retention project he joined shortly after his arrival to The Pantry. The team was tasked with determining the cause of high store turnover and suggesting an alternative program to slow and reverse the trend. As lead analyst on the project, he approached the issue methodically and enthusiastically. The project required him to partner with the HR department to gather, understand and organize large datasets. The traditional tools we would use for this kind of analysis were not sufficient for this project so Alex proactively taught himself to use SAS jmp to organize and analyze the data. He was able to interpret the results and provide clear, actionable next steps for the management team. In his first review of the information with the SVP of HR, Alex not only had the answers to all questions that arose, his presentation was well polished and he controlled the tempo of the meeting. He was able to sufficiently answer all questions without getting too deep into the intricacies of the data. This is a skill few analysts have early in their career. With his engineering background and thought process, Alex approaches every task with efficiency and process improvement in mind. When he is given a new assignment or takes over an old project, he takes the time to understand the intent, the underlying data, and the audience. This ensures that the desired result is achieved. I have never given Alex a challenge that he has not risen to. It has been a pleasure to work with Alex. Though I was his boss, I learned a lot from him, both from his direct knowledge sharing and through debating assumptions and theory with him. Even after my departure, I am sure Alex will rise quickly in the organization."
