I am a national leader in bioethics and pediatric critical care with over 25 years experience. I am the Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Inpatient Pediatric Services at Community Children's, and Chair of the Department of Women's and Children’s Services at Community Medical Center. I am also a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine.I have expertise in bioethics, healthcare ethics consultation (including adult, geriatric, pediatric, neonatal), palliative care, pediatric critical care, pediatric clinical research, research ethics, policy development, health care leadership, scientific writing, journal editing, teaching, management, and executive leadership. I have authored or co-authored over 100 publications including international professional guidelines on shared decision-making, futility, family support, and pediatric septic shock in leading journals including JAMA, Pediatrics, Critical Care Medicine, and others. I also routinely lecture at national professional meetings and at universities around the United States.In 2018, I founded Ethics Consultants, Inc., a corporation providing healthcare ethics support to hospitals, outpatient clinics, and other healthcare settings.
