Alex MacFarlane is a partner in BLG’s Toronto office. He is the National Co-Chair of BLG’s Insolvency & Restructuring Group and a member of the Banking and Financial Services Group. Alex has represented debtor corporations, financial institutions, court appointed monitors, proposal trustees, trustees-in-bankruptcy, liquidators, receivers and receiver/managers in respect of a broad range of insolvency and restructuring proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, and the Winding-Up and Restructuring Act both domestically and in the context of cross-border insolvency proceedings.Alex has been lead counsel in respect of numerous distressed divesture, or acquisition transactions in the context of CCAA, Receivership, Bankruptcy or Winding-Up Proceedings while acting for receivers, proposal trustees, trustees, liquidators, monitors or debtor corporations, as sellers, or for third party entities as potential purchasers.Alex has been consistently recognized by leading ranking publications, including The Best Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Global and Chambers Canada.
