As a Principal Consultant, I provide strategic guidance to clients at all levels of government, including summarizing complex topics for decisionmakers on incorporating freight into transportation planning, policy, and investment decisions. I work as both a project manager and key analyst on my projects, providing deep insights into the assumptions that go into analysis and identifying new and innovative approaches to completing projects. I developed and honed CPCS's use of Trucker Path data fused with truck GPS data and manage high profile projects for state DOTs and the federal government. Among other projects, my previous work guided Arizona DOT’s investment of $10 million in right-sized policy, capacity, and information solutions.

Alex has a wide range of experience assessing transportation policy for states, provinces, federal governments, government associations, and industry groups, including MAP-21 and the FAST Act. He has guided states through the definition of critical freight corridors and connections, including Critical Rural and Critical Urban Freight Corridors. Alex has extensive experience consulting with public and private stakeholders to identify freight issues and opportunities.

Alex Marach is a Consultant with CPCS, specializing in transport policy, economics, and related research. Alex has contributed work on several projects related to the Great Lakes, Oversize/Overweight trucking policy, and freight planning in both the US and Canada. Alex has a comprehensive understanding of the US policy environment at both a Federal and State level. His work on Map-21 freight provisions was recognized at the Transportation Research Board's 2014 Annual meeting with a Best Paper award. Additionally, Alex works extensively with transportation and freight data using a number of programs including GIS. Alex worked as associate researcher and transportation policy analyst at the National Center for Freight and Infrastructure Research and Education. Alex's most prominent work with CFIRE was his contributions to the MAP-21 implementation process through papers on numerous freight related provisions. Additionally, Alex's work on Critical Rural Freight Corridors was recognized with a Best Paper award in Freight Modeling at the Transportation Research Board's Annual Meeting. Alex is an accomplished researcher with extensive domain knowledge in transportation data. Alex's work at CFIRE also centered around benefit-cost analysis, transportation policy, and the economic implications of transportation decisions. In 2012, Alex wrote a guidebook for transportation analysts and executives that overviewed benefit-cost analysis and its relationship to the US DOT’s TIGER grant program. He also worked on a benefit-cost analysis of longer-combination vehicles on the Ohio turnpike.

Greater Milwaukee Area

I worked with a team of fellow students to provide actionable and data driven solutions to the Milwaukee Fire Department. I worked on the data analysis portion of the project to support policy alternatives.

I analyzed the historical progression of Assistant District Attorney (ADA) compensation over the last 10 years. I utilized publicly available labor contracts to compare compensation of Wisconsin ADAs to other Midwest states, other state employees with a JD, and the private sector. I used descriptive statistics to explain the distribution of experience. Lastly, I provided policy recommendations on the distributions of pay increases to reduce attrition.
