About Alex Mars, P.Eng.

𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀I always have. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had a keen appetite for discovery, learning and finding creative approaches to problem solving. I came pre-wired that way: engineers and architects run in my family. Adding an international upbringing sets the ideal stage for countless new experiences and overcoming challenges. Before I reached 20, I had lived in four countries on two continents: born in France, high school in the UK, summer jobs in the USA, and a stint teaching English, French and Spanish to preschoolers in Sweden. Nothing motivates you to come up with innovative solutions like moving to a different country. I’ve done that 6 times.Fast forward 25 years, and my education, experiences and aptitudes make me 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀: 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 “𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘁” at every stage of the process:- Brainstorming at the front end, generating pie-in-the-sky concepts? That’s my forte- I've worked through the Technology Readiness Levels to get from concept to reality- Business case analysis? The HAZOP? The SWOT? I speak this jargon- GANTT, KANBAN, and Agile, I speak this lingo too- Designing one-off products or mass-produced ones? Been there, done that, got the patent- I’ve done the detailed design, the GD&T, generated the BOMs and the 2D drawings- 3D CAD and FEA analysis? I’ve racked up thousands of seat hours- Liaising with local and overseas manufacturing partners including 3D printing? You bet- Built working prototypes with my bare hands? Yup- Troubleshot and commissioned new and existing systems – I speak wrenching- I’ve carried out the physical research, collected the data, scrutinized the results- Performed the calculations, built the spreadsheets, and written the reports- I’ve done the graphic design, the photo & video shoots and the editing, I speak Pantone too- Hootsuite, WordPress, CSS, social media, Google and LinkedIn ads, I get the word out - I bring work in the door, meet prospective clients, write the proposals and answer RFQ’s- I’ve managed projects from $5k to over $1M, meeting tight budgets and deadlines along the way- Trained, mentored, and managed teams of people to get the job done, I’m a people-personI speak the language of every team along the path because 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩.
