As Chief Financial Officer of OptumCare, Alex Mitchell was responsible for the financial management of a top 5 national health care delivery system with ~$17 billion in revenue, 45,000 physicians serving 17 million consumers annually, and more than 2 million members in fully capitated contractual arrangements. OptumCare organized systems of care delivery (local market primary and specialty care, surgery centers, urgent care, population health, and technology capabilities) to achieve the quadruple aim in health care and create societal value. He oversaw a finance function of more than 500 employees. He was responsible for strategic finance, financial management and target setting, internal controls, medical cost management and revenue optimization, large scale and tuck-in merger and acquisition activities, and growth. Under his leadership, earnings grew by more than 100% on a revenue base consistent with a standalone Fortune 200 organization.
