As a Sophomore at Rhodes College, I am pursuing a degree in biology with a concentration in the biomedical sciences to help me achieve my long-term goal of eventually becoming an optometrist and owning an optometry practice that offers bilingual services. Being a second-generation immigrant, I have always been aware of the language barrier and the trials and tribulations that come with it. It can make the simplest of interactions difficult, and this is especially true when it comes to medical interactions. Having always had an affinity for the sciences with an extreme liking for biology, and a drive to help those around me passed down to me by my family, I plan to use both these aspects of my character along with my hardworking nature to help my Spanish-speaking community. While the journey may be rough, I am optimistic and ready to take on any challenge ahead of me!
